pragelato village

Located in the upper Chisone valley, at 1500 metres altitude, Pragelato village (once Prata Gelata) is surrounded by mountains that create two valley furrows: the well known Val Troncea and the Chisonetto valley merging into the hamlet of Traverses in an alluvial plane. Hallmarks of the territory, dominated by the 3047 metres height of Mount Albergian, are various hamlets, La Ruà that is also the area chief village, Allevè, Duc, Traverses, Chezal, Souchères hautes, Granges, Gran Puy and others more.
Pragelato hamlets preserve several evidences of the links with the transalpine lands: You can in factcome across many polygonal fountains bearing the engraving of the French fleur-de-lis, the Savoy cross and you can find several exemplars of sundials, some of which signed Zarbula, a wandering author, whereas La Ruà preserves a painting by Gabriele Dufur.
Pragelato has become today an important tourist place, an Alpine amphitheatre with excellent sports facilities, where in winter people can do downhill skiing, cross-country and ice-skating, in summer can sojourn amidst superb mountains and charming fir and larch forests. Besides, the Val Troncea regional nature park extends within its territory.
